Intuition vs. Data: Seven Years Later
13 January 2025
I used to reject intuition and fully advocate for data-driven decision-making. Seven years ago, I even discussed this in detail in a post on VC.ru (you can read it here in Russian).
Years later, my perspective has shifted and become more balanced. Now, I’m learning to trust my intuition.
If you think about it, intuition is actually the quintessence of our experience, which means it often gives us correct answers.
I’d say that today, my decision-making process looks something like this:
- Work and business-related tactical decisions: 80% data, 20% intuition
- Business-related strategic decisions: 70% data, 30% intuition
- Personal tactical and strategic decisions: 30% data, 70% intuition
In essence, I’m trying to strike a balance between data and intuition in each decision I make.
For some reason, I approach personal and professional decisions differently. I think this is because work is about money, and my choices can significantly impact others. My personal life, on the other hand, is mine alone.
So, this is how my worldview changed over the years.
By the way, I recently came across the idea that intuition is a divine compass within each of us — a guide pointing us toward becoming better versions of ourselves.
Well, let’s see how this continues to evolve over the next seven years.
