Elon Musk – The Book
24 October 2024
I’ve just finished reading the recently published biography of Elon Musk, written by Walter Isaacson. You might know Isaacson as the author of biographies of other notable figures like Steve Jobs and Albert Einstein.
So, what can I say about the book? Elon Musk is undoubtedly one of the greatest minds of our time. However, I must admit that I have mixed feelings about the “progress at all costs” philosophy. Yet, in my view, it doesn’t in any way diminish Elon’s accomplishments.
Before reading the book, I wasn’t very familiar with Elon Musk or the companies he founded. I hadn’t followed the developments at SpaceX closely, and the twists and turns were quite surprising.
The most fascinating aspect of the book was learning about Elon’s personality. My belief that the most remarkable achievements are often made by people who have endured deep traumas, sadly, remains unchanged.
Elon Musk had a challenging childhood and a complicated relationship with his father, which has influenced him throughout his life.
As I was reading, I found myself reflecting on my attitude to such obnoxious micro-management. Am I missing out on better results by not paying close attention to every micro-change? What if I started taking even the smallest details into account? Or is my strength actually in being more of a generalist?
To tell the truth, I have my own issues. Every time I encounter incredibly successful people, I can’t help but compare myself to them (which is my biggest flaw) and wonder if I should follow their steps.
In conclusion, I genuinely enjoyed the book. It left me motivated and energized, inspired to work long hours and create something remarkable.
A solid 10/10, I highly recommend it!
